Northern Lights Temperature and Humidity

Alright, so Northern Lights. Classic strain. Old-school. Heavy indica vibes — like, melt-into-the-couch-and-forget-what-you-were-saying kind of heavy. People grow it for that reason. But here’s the thing nobody tells you when you’re just starting out: the environment you grow it in? It matters more than you think. Like, obsessively so.

Temperature first — this strain likes it warm, but not desert warm. Think 70 to 85°F during the day. That’s the sweet spot. Go hotter and she starts to stress. Leaves curl, buds get airy, and the whole thing just feels off. Cooler than 65°F at night? Eh, maybe she’ll survive, but don’t expect fireworks. She’ll sulk. You’ll see it in the leaves — that droopy, “why are you doing this to me?” look. It’s real.

Humidity’s trickier. Early on, seedlings and vegging plants like it moist — 60% RH or so. But once those buds start stacking? Drop it. Fast. 40% or even 35% if you can swing it. Northern Lights is dense. Like, stupid dense. If your humidity’s too high late in flower, you’re basically inviting mold to a buffet. Bud rot doesn’t knock. It just shows up, eats everything, and leaves you crying over what could’ve been.

And don’t even get me started on airflow. You can have perfect temps, dialed-in humidity, and still screw it all up if your air’s just sitting there, stale. Northern Lights needs to breathe. She’s not needy, but she’s not gonna thrive in a stagnant closet either. A couple fans, some negative pressure — nothing fancy, just enough to keep things moving. Like a breeze through a forest, not a hurricane in a shoebox.

Some folks say she’s easy to grow. And yeah, compared to some finicky sativas, sure. But “easy” doesn’t mean “forgiving.” You slack off, she’ll show it. Leaves yellowing too soon? Probably heat stress. Buds not fattening up? Could be humidity’s too high. Or too low. Or maybe your lights suck. Who knows. It’s a dance, and Northern Lights doesn’t lead — you do.

I remember the first time I grew her — thought I had it all figured out. Temps were fine, humidity was “close enough.” Spoiler: it wasn’t. Got hit with powdery mildew week 6. Had to chop early. The smoke was okay, but it wasn’t Northern Lights. Not really. Not the knockout, dream-float, time-warp stuff I’d had before. Just a shadow of it.

Now? I treat her like a moody houseguest. Keep her comfortable, don’t push her too hard, and for the love of god — keep the air dry when she’s flowering. She’ll reward you. Big time. Thick, resin-soaked colas that smell like pine and earth and something vaguely sweet, like candy left in a forest. You’ll know when you’ve done it right. She tells you.

Anyway, that’s my take. Don’t overthink it, but don’t get lazy either. Northern Lights isn’t just a strain — it’s a test. Pass it, and you’ll never look at your stash the same way again.
